In Tuesday's post, I featured Bobby & the RenegadesHearing David Shelley and Bluestone for the first time, I was completely taken off guard. David's voice is amazing, and you can hear his soul just pouring into the microphone. It was a pleasure to get to listen to this band each and every night!!
Here are a few images from his performances in the Eagles Ballroom on Carnival Valor….

Blues Cruise 2012 - Bobby & the Renegades
During the week of September 23-29, I had the fortune of going on the 1st annual Blues Cruise. The 7 day cruise on Carnival Valor stopped in Key West, Grand Cayman, and Jamaica. Present on the cruise were 3 of South Florida's top blues bands. Bobby and the Renegades, Blues Dragon, and David Shelley and Bluestone performed in the Eagles Ball Room on multiple occasions throughout the trip. I was surprised at the completely different, but very definitive style of each band. Throughout the week the excitement ramped up as the anticipated "All Star" night approached. It seemed as though each band's set trumped their previous evening's performance. While the performances by each group were amazing on their own, the "All Star" night was absolutly ridiculous.
I've assembled the best shots from each band from the entire week, including images from the "All Star" night. I'll be adding a different band each day for the next 4 days. Enjoy!!

Apollo 1 Memorial Site
My birthday, July 30th, was an extremely special day for me. Melody and Faith took me to Kennedy Space Center where we picked up our tickets to go on the "Then and Now" behind the scenes tour of Cape Canaveral, the military installation where missiles and rockets are tested and launched.
During the tour, I was able to explore Launch Complex 34. This is the launch pad where on January 27, 1967, tragedy struck the Apollo space program. Three astronauts, Lt. Col. Virgil I. Grissom, Lt. Col. Edward H. White, and Roger B. Chaffee died when a flash fire occurred in command module during a launch pad test of the Apollo/Saturn space vehicle.
This was quite an emotional experience for me, as I've been very attached to the space program since I was a child. To stand in this very spot, and think back about all the video clips like the one in the movie Apollo 13, and images of the burned capsule and the remains of the space suits, were enough to make the hair stand up on the back of my neck. The most moving image for me (below) is the shot I took from directly below the opening for the rocket. Knowing that these men perished just a few hundred feet directly above me, and right now I'm looking directly through that area into the heavens where they are now, still sends chills up my spine.
All in all, the experience is one that will be etched into my memory forever. Here are some more images from Launch Complex 34. I'll be posting more on the "Then and now" tour shortly, including other images from an amazing day at Cape Canaveral and Kennedy Space Center.

The blast shields from Launch Complex 34 were used to deflect the blast from the rocket engines into the air to protect from a ground fire.

The high temperature bricks that were used on the pad are still charred after 45 years!!

The remains of the block house where launch operations were conducted.

A heavy I-beam used in the construction of the block house has been cut off with a torch during the dismantling of the pad.

Notice the escape doors for the technicians that were in the block house during launch procedures.

Here is the escape tunnel hatch where the astronauts went incase of an abort due to a major malfunction during the final moments before launch.
I've also been fortunate enough to custom paint a tribute bike on television to salute the Apollo program and honor these three men who gave their lives in the name of space exploration. See the video on youtube here ---> (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iuQM10bwZ1g&feature=relmfu You'll see Jeffrey Phipps and I at 2:39).

A new beginning!! My "Photography 101" Meetup Group
I'm diggin' in!! I've really gotta get a handle on this blogging thing, so if you're reading this, click to "Join This Site" follow my blog, and hold me accountable to you for new info at every corner!!
I've started my first solo Meetup group this week called Photography 101. I've put together this meet up to educate anyone and everyone with a DSLR camera (cameras with interchangeable lenses), on the basic functions of their camera and how to get the most out of it. I will be having random meetups at different locations to get together with the members and shoot on location, and I will answer questions for individuals while we are at the location. Our first meetup will be on Sunday, July 22nd at 2pm in front of Tiffany & Co. on Worth Ave, Palm Beach
I am also holding Photography 101 education classes. These will be classroom oriented with lectures, powerpoint presentations specifically designed for the topic of discussion by me. I'll be teaching a "Camera Basics" class, Composition 101," "Flash Basics" and many more!! They will all include plenty of in-class hands-on assignments to get you familiar with your camera and all those "scary" settings. You will have plenty of time to ask questions during and after the course if necessary. It is my goal to make sure you fully understand everything about that particular subject before leaving. These classes will be in the neighborhood of 8 hours. Printed course materials, along with lunch, and refreshments will be provided as part of the tuition for the class.
So, come and join my meet up group, and learn to use your camera like the pros!! You can find us here at… http://www.meetup.com/Photography_101/
Hers's a shot that I saw out of the corner of my eye while is was working with a model last week. I call it "Tiny Splashes"…enjoy!!
